Tiziano Bernasocchi, molecular biologist in the Prostate Cancer Genome group of Prof. Jean-Philippe Theurillat, successfully defended his Ph.D. on April 21st, 2020, from the University of Lausanne.
He presented the work entitled: Dual Functions of SPOP and ERG Dictate Androgen Therapy Responses in Prostate Cancer. The research work elucidates an enigmatic finding of comprehensive prostate cancer genome studies, namely that recurrent genetic rearrangements of the ERG transcription factor never co-occur with recurrent point mutations in the ubiquitin ligase adaptor SPOP within the same tumor cells. Importantly, our study of antagonistic driver gene interactions in prostate cancer provides a blueprint on how to exploit this emerging concept therapeutically.
Thesis committee was as follow:

- Prof. Jean-Philippe Theurillat, Supervisor
- Prof. Andrea Alimonti as an Expert
- Prof. Douglas Hanahan as an Expert: professor at EPFL and Director of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC)
