Three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Molecular Oncology Group directed by Prof. Andrea Alimonti at the IOR

A 3-year postdoctoral fellowship is available from September 1st, 2021 in the lab of Prof. Andrea Alimonti at IOR to study the role of senescence and the immune response in prostate cancer and aging and to develop novel effective therapies for the treatment of prostate cancer and other aging-related disorders. The Alimonti lab works on senescence and cancer immunology, in particular on the role played by senescent cells and tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells in cancer initiation, progression and treatment-resistance (e.g. Guccini et al, Cancer Cell 2020; Alajati et al., J Clin Invest 2020; Di Mitri et al., Cell Rep, 2019; Chen et al., Nature Genetics, 2018; Calcinotto et al., Nature, 2018).

The successful candidate will be part of an ongoing effort to elucidate the role of cellular senescence in different biological contexts of critical clinical relevance, including aging and prostate cancer, and identify and target novel regulators of senescence and the immune system in cancer and aging-related diseases. The recruited postdoc will use different approaches (FACs analysis, RNAseq, proteomics, metabolomics, drug screenings), and will generate novel mouse models to understand if and how senescent cells control prostate tumor development and other aging-related disorders. We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with a strong background in cancer, immunology, and senescence, to join an established, multicultural group of 15 talented scientists. Experience with in vivo cancer models would be considered a plus. We require an outstanding record in high impact factor journals, the ability to drive discovery by working independently, interacting with colleagues with different backgrounds and establishing relevant collaborations.

The IOR is affiliated to the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), offers state-of-the-art labs and facilities, a thriving environment, an exciting research project and multiple occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology. Being Prof. Alimonti also an ETH member, his team can benefit from ETH environment, top collaborations, facilities, and internal grants. We foster professional growth of postdoctoral associates: out of 7 past fellows, 5 secured independent PI positions in Europe, and in Switzerland. Salary will follow the standard of IOR postdoctoral fellow salary scale that is in line with the rest of Switzerland. The position is fully funded by an SNSF Sinergia grant.

Interested candidates shall email (reference: AA_PostDoc2021) a cover letter, a CV, and three reference letters by July 31st,  2021. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a two-day on-site interview.
